Texas Law Shield applauds Come And Take It Texas, which held an open-carry rally in downtown Austin Wednesday among thousands of festival goers at South By Southwest.
Tens of thousands of visitors attend the annual South By Southwest film, music, and technology festival, which is held in bars, restaurants, and parks in downtown Austin.
Organizers of the rally said the event was educational and meant to show that guns in public are not dangerous if they are handled safely.
About a dozen open-carriers displayed the unloaded firearms around 11 a.m. near the state Capitol. The long guns rifles were carried as close to 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock as possible.
It’s legal in Texas to carry antique black-powder pistols and long guns in the open. To carry a sidearm in public, a person must have a concealed carry license and conceal the handgun.
