The next legislative session is not scheduled to commence until January 10, 2017, but it promises to hold our interest as more and more gun legislation is being proposed. One pre-filed measure for the session comes from Republican State Representative Dan Flynn, HB 56.
Under the proposed measure, first responders, including EMS and firefighters, would be allowed to carry a handgun if they possessed a license to carry a handgun and were actually engaged in discharging their duties at the time.
If passed, it would become law September 1, 2017. — by Michael Wisdom, Senior Contributing Editor, Texas & U.S. Law Shield Blog
